Page Jones Davis explores line, color and texture in her bold, punchy paintings. Clean edged shapes are superimposed on layers of color, some embellished by striated marks others by more ambiguous lines. The overall effect is fresh and engaging.
Page was born in Atlanta and raised in the South. She received her BFA from the University of South Carolina and her MFA from The Savannah College of Art and Design. She teaches art and has studied in New Mexico as well as in Italy and Spain. Page’s work has been shown in many solo and group shows throughout the US and has been published in New American Paintings. Page’s art is featured in private and corporate collections including those of Milliken & Co., Wells Fargo, The Savannah College of Art and Design, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
My work is created with the intention of defining a visual space that evokes emotions such as curiosity, intimacy, playfulness, and chance. Inspiration comes from the aesthetic of the modern market place found in places such as advertisements, apps, catalogs, and stores. Juxtaposing this aesthetic with glimpses of the artist hand signifies the importance of human contact in a culture that is becoming more and more communicative but ironically, less connected. The work encourages the viewer to bring their own experiences to an open ended dialogue, in which there is an implied invitation for them to become a part of the story.
